For once I took the weekend off. It was the anniversary of a year with my lover. Our inception date is auspicious and arbitrary. Between my chin and my chest she asked, “What if we had our date on a day of angel numbers?” and I said, sure. And it was so. Reality slave to our whims. All the world open to us, as it should be.
Strap in, I’m taking you with me in looking back at a weekend of revelry in the big city and the prophetic insights gleaned from it all, illuminated by the moon glorious in Capricorn, sign of the bodacious tropical workhorse.
She booked us a night at one of the most hyped and trendy hotels in the city. The place did not disappoint. We started with steak frites at the low-key restaurant on the ground floor with its nocturnal tropical aesthetic. In the room, hidden strips of light threw out mood lighting from under the bed. Our reflection everywhere, especially under the expensive mohair blanket the color of elk fur. Wood and simplistic modernity.
We’d been to the club at the rooftop before, but as guests we had guaranteed entry and didn’t need to wait in that horrific line it always sports. After dinner we indulged in each other and didn’t make it out until 12, so I was glad for that. It was too cold at the spire of the world to do more than take a few pictures outside, but the glass canary cage right underneath was a crowded and rumbling odyssey of yuppies, young’ins, and the inebriated. We fit in perfectly. I didn’t get to do much more than sway my hips and snap to the (surprisingly good) beats in that sardine can, but just being there and being seen and free was its own pleasure. A belonging. A loosening. The 2 edibles I chewed over champagne made it all feel silky sensual. I’ve always loved how the 2 of us are so good at tethering into each other’s eyes in places like this. But we had an entire weekend ahead of us, and foreplay is best when aged like dessert wine, so I put my shades on and hid my eyes from her. It worked. Soon she was getting antsy and she wasn’t as impressed as I was by the DJ. Time to bounce.
